Escape & Stay With Us at the Asilomar Conference Center…
Housing and Registration packages are still available for the 2011 Asilomar Experience!
Known as the “Refuge by the Sea,” the Asilomar Conference Center is a charming, historic, and calming
place that will be the host to this summer’s experience.
The History of Asilomar:
People began gathering on the grounds nearby Asilomar dating back to 1897. In 1912, the Pacific Improvement Company
donated thirty acres facing the Pacific Ocean on the Monterey Peninsula to the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA).
That year, the YWCA hired world renowned architect, Julia Morgan to construct the first few buildings onsite at
the Asilomar Conference Center, which still stand today. In 1956, an agreement was made by the State of California
and the City of Pacific Grove to run and operate the facility. Members of United Centers for Spiritual Living and
International Centers for Spiritual Living have been coming to, and also fell in love with,
the grounds in the 1950’s. And still to this day, we cannot imagine being anywhere in the middle of summer besides Asilomar…
Conference Center Amenities:
The grounds feature a beautiful green meadow with views of the Pacific, sandy trails out to the beach, quaint cottages,
sleeping rooms, and meeting rooms with fireplaces, volleyball courts, a pool, and bonfire pits. And for those of you
who can’t escape the technological world, there is complimentary wireless internet in the Social Hall where everyone
gathers each day between sessions. Each Wednesday during the conference, there is free time to explore the grounds,
nearby beaches, and the communities of Monterey, Carmel, and Pacific Grove.
All registration packages include three meals a day served in the famous Crocker Hall, beginning with dinner on Sunday
of the week you are attending, and ending with lunch on Saturday. There is nothing like sitting with a colleague after
a workshop to discuss the day, or to simply sit with a table of friends for a meal before attending the evening’s activities.
The Asilomar Conference Center staff is very accommodating to those with dietary restrictions, as well as vegetarians
and vegans. The head chef is committed to serving as much fresh and locally grown food as possible.
Staying on grounds at the Asilomar Conference Center is part of the overall experience. We encourage and
hope that you will consider staying with us in community on grounds this summer.
